South Precinct officers Sunday at 2:30 p.m. responded to Wingate Avenue near Sunrise Avenue after a nearby resident found an elderly woman, tentatively identified as an 83-year-old Nashvillian, lying in the roadway. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The Medical Examiner is working to positively identify her.

The preliminary investigation by the Crash Investigation Unit indicates that an unknown vehicle struck the woman on Wingate Avenue and fled the scene.
