On September 9, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho delivered a breakfast meeting at the 17th ROK-U.S. Alliance Forum organized by the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation under the theme "The ROK-U.S. Alliance: Toward 100 Years of Peace in Northeast Asia."

The forum was attended by around 150 people, including key military figures such as the President of the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation Leem Ho Young; the deputy commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command; and the School Principal of the Republic of Korea Naval Academy Lee Soo Yeol, as well as members of the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation and cadets from the army, navy and air force.

In his lecture, Minister Kim stated that the ROK-U.S. alliance continues to expand as security cooperation in the Asian region strengthens. He highlighted the "support for a unified Korean Peninsula that is free and at peace" declared at the ROK-U.S.-Japan Summit at Camp David in August last year and a "joint statement on newly adopted nuclear deterrence guidelines" adopted at the NATO Summit in July this year as clear examples of the alliance's ongoing expansion.

Furthermore, Minister Kim emphasized that just as the "ROK-U.S. alliance has secured 70 years of peace, it must continue to strengthen in order to ensure peace for the next 100 years." The minister reaffirmed the South Korean government's commitment to realizing the vision of the 8.15 Unification Doctrine, "A unified Republic of Korea based on freedom, peace, and prosperity," by strengthening solidarity among countries that share common values under the solid ROK-U.S. alliance.
