Two charged during National Day of Action targeting Comanchero OMCG - Task Force Morpheus

State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad joined their interstate counterparts for a National Day of Action targeting Comanchero OMCG members and associates under Task Force Morpheus.

Coordinated by National Task Force Morpheus, the operation brought together police, government agencies, and partners from Australia and New Zealand in a synchronised effort yesterday (Thursday 28 November 2024).

In NSW, Criminal Groups Squad were assisted by Raptor Squad, the Public Order & Riot Squad, and South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group.

In total, police arrested two men, executed three search warrants, seven Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks and - with assistance from NSW Health - conducted a total of seven tobacconist store inspections across the state.

Police located and seized illicit tobacco and vapes with an estimated value of more than $1 million, $323,645 in cash, and cloned plates and electronics.

Incidents of note include:

- (EDITOR'S NOTE: Has vision) About 6.10am yesterday, strike force detectives a search warrant at a home in Cobbitty where they arrested a 29-year-old man. During the search, police located and seized 295 cartons of illicit tobacco. The man was taken to Narellan Police Station, where he was charged with demand with menaces intend obtain gain/cause loss, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend relating to alleged threats he made toward a competing tobacconist. The man was refused bail and appeared in Picton Local Court the same day.

- About 8am yesterday, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Wiley Park, where detectives located and seized approximately $100,000 in cash hidden in the garden. A 57-year-old man was issued a CAN (Court Attendance Notice), charged with deal with property proceeds of crime < $100000 & > $5000. The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 6 February 2024.

Commander of State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad, Detective Superintendent Jason Box, said this unified effort demonstrates the commitment of police to safeguarding our communities and remove any threats that may exist.

"By working together, the NSWPF and partners send a powerful message we will continue to disrupt and suppress any organised criminal activities." Det Supt Box said.

"Operations like this are a reminder to any criminal organisations, and those acting on their behalf, that they can be targeted at any time."
