FLSA overtime rule struck down in federal court

Today, a federal judge in the Eastern District of Texas struck down the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime rule, which was set to go into effect on January 1, 2025.

This decision appears to eliminate the increase to salary thresholds for overtime exemptions that UNM has been preparing to implement on Jan. 1.

"The Human Resources Department wants to assure the campus community that UNM is aware of this significant development," said Human Resources Vice President Kevin Stevenson. "Over the next few days, we will carefully review the court's ruling and assess what it means for impacted employees and departments."

The HR Department will provide additional details and guidance next week to clarify what this decision means for UNM and the next steps that need to be taken.
