Distinctive fencing activity with Olympic, Paralympic legends Aug. 1-4 in Mission Viejo

With Mission Viejo's rich Olympic history and current sport tourism efforts, the City has partnered with USA Fencing and its "Fencing Across America" campaign to bring a unique opportunity to this community in August.

This innovative fan endeavor includes USA Fencing offering fencing demos by Olympic and Paralympic legends and learning opportunities at different places across the country. In Mission Viejo, the City is teaming up with the Laguna Fencing Center to host this distinctive opportunity from 1-5 pm August 1-4 during the Paris Olympic Games at The Shops at Mission Viejo.

"This is just one of many opportunities over the next four years the City will engage our community with the Olympic movement as the games transfer from Paris to Los Angeles," said Mission Viejo Director of Recreation & Community Services Mark Nix. "Many residents still recall the excitement they experienced when the City hosted the LA84 Cycling Road Race event, and we look forward to immersing our residents in the Olympic spirit once again leading up to LA28."

The fencing activity complements the current efforts by the City's Sport & Economic Tourism Committee (SET) to secure partnerships with National Olympic Committees, National Sports Federations, and Continental Sports Organizations for pre-game training in Mission Viejo before and during the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"We're bringing the Olympic and Paralympic spirit directly to the people," said USA Fencing CEO Phil Andrews. "With Fencing Across America, we hope to inspire a new generation of fencing enthusiasts by making the sport accessible and engaging. We know fans across the country will be inspired by the incredible competition they witness from our Olympians in Paris, and we want to capitalize on that momentum by giving people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to get in on the action and try their hand at a life-changing sport."

The activity will take place on the first floor of the mall just outside of Old Navy.
