Commissioner Causey announces victim assistance centers, insurance camps in Boone and Banner Elk to aid those impacted by Hurricane Helene

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced Victim Assistance Centers (VACs) and insurance camps will be open to aid those who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene.

"The Victim Assistance Centers will provide in-person and on-the-ground recovery assistance and insurance-related support to those directly impacted by Hurricane Helene," Commissioner Causey said. "Our Insurance Camps allow us to work with the insurance industry on the ground to give storm victims direct access to their insurance companies. We plan on doing more going forward."

The next VAC will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, on the second floor of Appalachian State University's Plemmons Student Union Building, 263 Locust St., Boone N.C., 28608.

NCDOI will host its first Helene-related Insurance Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 11, at the Lowe's Home Improvement, 2014 Tynecastle Highway, Banner Elk, N.C., 28604.

NCDOI is currently coordinating with law enforcement agencies, emergency management, fire departments, rescue squads, charities, churches and civic groups to assist victims. NCDOI will continue to host future events to assist with insurance claims for those affected.
