City of Hemet Introduces Lifesaving Technology to the Community Via PulsePoint, a 9 1 1 Integrated M

Hemet, Calif.- On October 12, 2024, in honor of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, the City of Hemet and the Healthy Valley Foundation announced the adoption of PulsePoint to further the City's commitment to creating a healthy and civically engaged community. The event was held at Fire Station 1 and was highlighted by messages from Joe Males - Mayor of Hemet, Dr. Seth Dukes - Medical Director for Hemet Fire Department, Dr. Corey Jackson - California Assembly Member 60thDistrict, Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez - Riverside County 5th District Supervisor, Lillian Averett - Representative for Congressman Raul Ruiz, Eddie Sell - Fire Chief Hemet Fire Department, and Jennifer O'Farrell - President and CEO Healthy Valley Foundation.

The speakers highlighted PulsePoint, a free mobile app that alerts CPR-trained citizens to nearby cardiac events for immediate assistance, supports the creation of a comprehensive AED registry, and provides the community with real-time emergency activity updates.

PulsePoint Respond empowers everyday citizens to provide lifeā€saving assistance to victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). PulsePoint Respond app subscribers who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and willing to assist in case of an emergency can be notified if someone nearby is having an SCA and may require CPR. If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the location-aware application will alert users in the vicinity of the need for CPR simultaneous with the dispatch of advanced medical care. The application also directs these potential rescuers to the exact location of the closest AED.

With PulsePoint, the City aims to increase bystander involvement in time-sensitive medical calls by increasing the use of CPR and AEDs while informing the community of all emergency activities in real-time.

To get involved, download the app, join Hemet Fire and the Healthy Valley Foundation for our fall CPR and AED Certification training, and register here as spaces are limited.
