JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) is pleased to announce Kristin Brummel, pharmacy manager of the Lee's Summit West Hy-Vee Pharmacy, has been selected as Missouri's 2024 Immunization Champion.

The national award is presented by the Association of Immunization Managers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and honors individuals from the state, local and territorial jurisdictions who have gone above and beyond to foster and promote immunizations in their communities.

Brummel was nominated and selected from a pool of health professionals, community advocates and other immunization leaders for making a significant contribution to public health in Missouri through her work in leading the Lee's Summit West Hy-Vee Pharmacy.

During her 23-year career at Hy-Vee, Brummel served as a health care advocate, encouraging patients to stay current on routine vaccinations to protect their health. Brummel prioritizes flu shots year-round and is always seeking new ways to streamline the vaccination process for her patients to create an easier and more convenient experience. Every fall, she staffs her pharmacy with a dedicated team to ensure patients can get their annual flu shot quickly - whether they walk in or have an appointment. This year, Brummel and her team will be offering drive-thru flu shots outside of the Lee's Summit West Hy-Vee on select days during September and October.

"Through the Immunization Champion awards, AIM and DHSS proudly acknowledge Kristin's passion, hard work and commitment to immunizations in her community," said Lynelle Paro, DHSS Bureau of Immunizations Chief. "She works hard to ensure that her pharmacy is always prepared with adequate staffing, scheduling availability and overall greater access, which provides consistency and trust among their patients."
