CHARLOTTE - Last week, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) celebrated a grant of $400,000 by the U.S. Department of Energy in Charlotte to Nucor, a steel production company. This grant is part of nationwide investment of $4 million in 10 projects, designed to harness the processing power of the world's most powerful supercomputers, strengthen America's manufacturing competitiveness, and move the country closer to an equitable clean energy future for all Americans.

"Under Secretary Granholm and President Biden, our Department of Energy has invested in a future for all Americans, and it's being built in Charlotte," said Rep. Adams. "These kinds of investments ensure good jobs today, and a sustainable future for generations to come. We are planting trees today, under whose shade our children and grandchildren will sit."

Part of DOE's High Performance Computing for Energy Innovation (HPC4EI) initiative, the selected teams will apply advanced modeling, simulation, and data analysis to projects that improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce industrial emissions, and explore new materials and manufacturing processes for clean energy applications. The specific office is the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office and Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office, in partnership with the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management.
