UNGA Third Committee: Elimination of racism and the follow up to the Durban declaration and programme of action – Explanation of vote

Ministry Statements & Speeches: 21 November 2024

Statement delivered by Madison Edilson, Adviser

Thank you Chair.

As per our longstanding position, New Zealand has abstained on this resolution.

Racism, in all forms, is abhorrent and unacceptable. New Zealand is fully committed to combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.

We aspire for an inclusive approach to debating the important issue of racism at the United Nations and beyond, in a way that brings countries together and involves working with civil society.

New Zealand supports dialogue by affirming the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination as the basis for all efforts to prevent, combat and eradicate racism in all its forms.

Thank you.
