Flood Watch, winter weather advisories in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the North Bay from 2 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday due to expected rainfall.

Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Monday, with minor coastal flooding anticipated due to higher astronomical tides.

Impacts may include flooding of parking lots, parks, roads, creeks and streams. Drivers are advised not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, remember to "Turn around, don't drown".

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory for parts of Sonoma County starting this afternoon, Friday, Dec. 13, through Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.

What to expect:

  • Strong south winds 30-40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph
  • Potential for downed trees and power lines
  • Isolated power outages
  • Challenging driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles or trailers

In addition, a High Surf Advisory has been issued for coastal beaches in Sonoma County through 4 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Hazardous conditions including large breaking waves of 18-22 feet are expected.

Stay off the jetties, keep your eyes on kids and pets and never turn your back to the ocean.

National Economic Report offers regional insights

The latest Moody's Analytics Quarterly Economic Report provides key insights into expected macroeconomic conditions for the year ahead and how federal economic policy could shape Sonoma County's regional economy.

In Sonoma County, the outlook is largely positive. Annual job growth outpaces U.S. and California averages, healthcare remains a leading industry, and tourism continues to rebound. Manufacturing and construction face challenges from higher interest rates but could see relief if rates decline.

Demographic challenges persist, yet 2023 saw the lowest outward migration since 2016. A drop in mortgage rates could slow house price appreciation, improving affordability as incomes catch up.
