University of Toledo students, faculty, staff and alumni who have faced bias, prejudice or other struggles will share their stories at UToledo's Human Library on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Approximately 15 volunteers will be available for one-on-one conversations from 3 to 6 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Room 2592, in line with the broader human library model that creates a safe space for "readers" to connect with "human books."

UToledo students, faculty, staff and alumni who have faced bias, prejudice or other struggles will share their stories at the Human Library on Nov. 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Room 2592.

These human books will be prepared to discuss their experiences related to race, gender, sexuality, disability, medical or emotional challenges, religious or political beliefs, social status, immigration status or occupation. Readers can sit down with books for 15-minute sessions and are invited to check out as many books as possible during the event.

"We aim to challenge prejudice and stereotypes by fostering open conversations, allowing participants to connect and understand one another better," said Dr. Sammy Spann, vice provost of student affairs and dean of students. "This program encourages thoughtful dialogue rather than quick judgments, fostering deeper insights through meaningful interactions with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences."

The Division of Student Affairs, Office of the Provost and University Libraries are co-sponsoring the free, public event.

Visitor parking on campus requires payment through the ParkMobile app, a parking meter or a daily permit via ParkUToledo. Visit the ParkUToledo website for more information.
