As part of the 2024 One Book, One Community reading project, the Fargo Public Library will host "Warriors in the North: Local Veterans' Stories of Healing," a presentation by Dr. Margo Norton, clinical psychologist with the Fargo VA, along with a discussion featuring local veterans on Thursday, Oct. 17, starting at 6 p.m. at the downtown Main Library. Dr. Norton will describe this ongoing project and teach attendees how creating a physical mask can visually represent a veteran's experiences and assist in the healing process. The free event is open to all ages, but is geared for adults. For more details, contact Lori West at 701.476.5977.

For almost 10 years, veterans in our region have participated in a mask-making project at the Fargo VA to help them work through trauma. This therapeutic program was originally developed at Walter Reed National Military Medial Center for soldiers returning home with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.
