Man Charged for High-Speed Chase

October 24, 2024, Peoria, IL- Today, Tyrese L. Walker, 23, was charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding after fleeing from police Wednesday morning and reaching speeds over 100 mph on heavily traveled city streets. The State's Petition to Detain Walker was granted during today's detention hearing, meaning he will remain in custody until trial.

Around 10:30 am Wednesday, police were called to the 3400 block of W. Fallen Oak Lane for a man, later identified as Walker, sleeping in a car with a rifle sitting in plain view. When officers arrived and woke Walker, he immediately drove off, striking a vehicle in the process. Walker sped down several city streets, ignoring traffic control devices and reaching speeds of 100 mph. When officers abandoned the pursuit, they used Flock cameras to track Walker to the East Bluff, where he was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. After searching the car Walker was driving, police located a loaded handgun with a 30-round extended magazine and a rifle. Walker is also being charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon after previously being convicted of a felony in another county.
