Henderson State to add men's and women's outdoor track in 2025-26

Reddie, set, go! Track is returning to Henderson State University.

Reddie Athletics announced on Wednesday that men's and women's outdoor track will be added as the 15th intercollegiate sport sponsored by the university and will begin competition in the 2025-26 school year.

"We are incredibly excited to have track back at Henderson State," Athletics Director Seth Dutton said. "The Reddies have a rich history of success in track and a natural recruiting footprint to be competitive in our conference, region and beyond. With the additions of men's and women's track, the doors of opportunity at Henderson State are now open to more prospective student-athletes than ever before. We are looking forward to building this program back the right way and watching it flourish in the years to come."

The original men's track and field program, which ceased operations following the 1993 season during the school's transition from the NAIA to the NCAA, had 14 All-America honorees between 1977 and 1988, and produced 25 Henderson State Hall of Honor inductees.

"Henderson State University had a legendary track program that produced incredible athletes and touched so many lives," Chancellor Dr. Trey Berry said. "We are excited to bring back the Reddie track program and to watch new athletic legends emerge over the next decades."

Fundraising to install a state-of-the-art racing surface on the existing track at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium will begin immediately, as will a national search for the program's next head coach.
