New Polling Shows Gun Violence is Important Issue When Voting

to Majority of Arizona Voters

PHOENIX- Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced a more than $1.6 million paid media campaign in Arizona for the 2024 elections. New digital ads and direct mailers will run across targeted state legislative battleground districts and focus on highlighting Arizona MAGA Republicans' opposition to common-sense gun safety laws and the extreme guns everywhere agenda they will push in Phoenix.

"Our polling confirms that the overwhelming majority of Arizona voters are looking for candidates who will fight to keep our schools and our families safe from gun violence," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Everytown is making sure voters know that Arizona communities would be at risk if MAGA Republicans have total control of Phoenix."

As a part of today's announcement, Everytown released a new poll in Arizona showing the power of gun safety for voters. A full memo is available here, and key findings include:

  • Specific gun violence prevention policies enjoy widespread majority support. Polling on gun issues has long shown clear support for specific gun policies that transcends party lines, and the battleground here is no exception. In this current poll, the most popular gun safety proposals are background checks (78% strong support), prohibiting domestic abusers from owning guns (71%), and safe storage measures (70%).
    • Notably, these proposals also gain support among solid majorities of Republicans (68% strongly support background checks, 63% preventing domestic abusers from owning guns and 56% safe storage measures).
  • When voters are given balanced examples or explanations, more support stronger gun laws. When questions around support for stronger gun laws are framed around "protecting people from gun violence" or safer schools, a majority are in support of stronger laws (51% favor protecting people from gun violence over protecting the rights of gun owners, and 50% support stronger gun laws to make it safer for children over the rights of gun owners).

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund is also announcing new endorsements for candidates in key battleground legislative seats:

  • John McLean, State Senate, District 17
  • Stephanie Simacek, State Representative, District 02
  • Sarah Liguori, State Representative, District 05
