Commissioner Causey announces victim assistance centers in McDowell, Madison, Polk, Rutherford, Alleghany counties to aid those impacted by Hurricane Helene

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner has announced that Victim Assistance Centers (VACs) will open in Old Fort, Marshall, Columbus, Lake Lure and Sparta to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene.

The following VACs will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 6, AC Bud Hogan Community Center, 909 E. Main St, Old Fort, N.C. 28762.
  • Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 6-7, Wilkes Community College Alleghany Center, 115 Atwood St., Sparta, N.C. 28675.
  • Thursday, Nov. 7, Marshall Library, 1335 N. Main St., Marshall, N.C. 28753.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 12, Columbus Library, 1289 W. Mills St., Columbus, N.C. 28722.
  • Thursday, Nov. 14, Mountains Branch Library, 150 Bills Creek Road, Lake Lure, N.C. 28746.

"We are continuing to coordinate with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, rescue squads, civic groups, charities and churches to assist victims of this terrible storm," Commissioner Causey said. "The Department of Insurance will continue to host events to help with insurance claims and other needs."
