U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer today announced the appointment of Juan Figueroa, Ulster County Sherriff, to the State And Local Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery Review Board. The State and Local CBOB Board established in 2008 is composed of nine members, including one member jointly appointed by the leadership of U.S. Senate for which the Ulster County Sherriff was selected.

"Sheriff Juan Figueroa has been at the forefront of bolstering safety and community policing in Ulster County, and I am thrilled to appoint him to the Congressional Badge of Bravery Review Board," said Senator Schumer. "Sheriff Figueroa - a proud son of Puerto Rican parents who grew up in the Bronx - was stationed in Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines during his service with the U.S. Marine Corps and deeply understands the importance of public service, courage and sacrifice. Sheriff Figueroa's breadth of experience in various positions across law enforcement agencies makes him uniquely qualified for this role. I'm thankful for his years of dedication to keeping the Hudson Valley safe and know that his experiences will serve him well as the newest member of the State and Local Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery Board."

"I've worked with Sheriff Figueroa for years, both as County Executive and now in Congress, and I can tell you there is nobody more dedicated to protecting and serving our Hudson Valley community," said Congressman Pat Ryan. "Sheriff Figueroa is a public servant in the truest sense of the word, someone who has made it his life's work to keep all of us safe. I couldn't think of a more deserving member of the Congressional Badge of Bravery Review Board."

The State and Local Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery Board is one of two boards responsible for recommending recipients of the prestigious Congressional Badge of Bravery award to the Attorney General. The Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery is awarded to a law enforcement officer who has performed exceptional acts of bravery while in the line of duty.
