Mayor Thomas P. Koch announced that many of the promised improvements to the Forbes Hill Park have been completed this summer. Improvements include a brand-new basketball court, a brand-new tennis/pickleball court, and a new children's playground. Additional improvements will continue this Fall with a walking path and 30 native trees being planted. Repairs to the historic Forbes Hill Tower are also part of the scope of the park improvements.

"I want to thank Mayor Koch, Councilor Ian Cain, and all the City Councilors that supported the park improvements and clubhouse project," said Natural Resources Commissioner Dave Murphy. "In the end, we will have a beautiful park and municipal golf course that will add to the value and quality of life in the Forbes Hill Neighborhood. I want to thank the neighbors who have worked with us throughout the project and helped make this project better than our original designs. It's been a great team effort."

Forbes Hill Park was once site to a large drinking water reservoir and adjacent water tower that was surrounded in beautiful granite block. The water tower was last used in the 1940's and the beautiful historic structure still stands today. The reservoir was filled in during the 1950's and the park was created.

An important component of this project is the infrastructure work being done as part of the project. Historic stormwater and drainage concerns on Forbes Hill are being addressed by controlling the runoff from the park. The golf course parking lot will have catch basins for the first time in history, catching rainwater before it sheets down the hill. A new water line was looped from Reservoir Road down the Summit Avenue, improving water pressure on the top of Forbes Hill.

The adjacent Furnace Brook Golf Course Clubhouse project is progressing on-time and on-budget. The new clubhouse is replacing a 1926 building that was out of ADA compliance. The new building will feature a dining area, covered deck overlooking the course and ocean, and four new state-of-the-art golf simulators that will generate revenue year-round.

Added Murphy, "Opening the new clubhouse in early 2025 will be a great way to start a year-long celebration commemorating the 400th anniversary of the creation of our local government. This wonderful community facility will serve as the inclusive hub of so much positive community activity. I want to thank the entire project team from G&R Construction, Fuss and Oneil, Amenta Emma Architects, our Public Works and Engineering Department, our Public Buildings Department, and everyone else that contributed to this great success.
