63 High School Students Visit Eastern Oregon University as Part of Oregon Teacher Pathway Program

63 High School Students Visit Eastern Oregon University as Part of Oregon Teacher Pathway Program

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon University (EOU) welcomed over 60 high school juniors and seniors from across the region as part of the Oregon Teacher Pathway (OTP) program. The students spent the day exploring what it means to pursue a career in education, with a special focus on culturally responsive teaching.

During their visit, students had the opportunity to meet with EOU's Admissions, Residence Life, and Financial Aid teams to learn about the university's programs and the resources available to support their college journey. They also participated in a library orientation that highlighted the academic support services at EOU before enjoying lunch on campus. The event was designed to inspire the next generation of educators, providing them with firsthand exposure to the resources and opportunities available at EOU.

Visiting partner high schools included Baker City, La Grande, Milton Freewater, Ontario, Pendleton, Umatilla, and Wallowa.

La Grande High School student Haley Evans shared her passion for becoming a teacher, saying, "My teachers have made such a big impact on my life, and I want to do the same for future generations by making a difference in children's lives."

The OTP program aims to increase the diversity of Oregon's teaching workforce by recruiting and supporting diverse students and those interested in becoming culturally responsive teachers.
