Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, AdvanSix is proud to highlight the rich stories and experiences of our Hispanic and Latino team members. Our commitment to fostering belonging in the workplace is strengthened by these stories, which remind us of the power of equity, diversity and inclusion in shaping who we are as a company.This month offers an opportunity to honor the contributions, culture and the unique perspectives our Hispanic team members bring to the company.
In this spotlight, we're excited to feature Giselle Cardona, Human Resources Generalist at our Chesterfield site.
What does it mean to you to be Hispanic?
Being Hispanic, especially Puerto Rican, means connecting with my history and traditions. It's about celebrating my culture and valuing family and community.
How do you celebrate your culture?
I celebrate my Puerto Rican culture through food, music and family gatherings as often as possible. We often cook traditional dishes like arroz con gandules and pernil and enjoy salsa and reggaeton music. Celebrating holidays like Three Kings Day also keeps our traditions alive.
Why is Hispanic Heritage Month so important?
Hispanic Heritage Month is important because it recognizes the contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. It's a time to celebrate our diverse cultures and histories and to help others understand the impact we've had on society.
What about your culture are you most proud of?
I'm proud of our resilience and spirit. After Hurricane Maria, Puerto Ricans showed how we can come together and help each other rebuild. I really appreciate how warm and supportive our community is.
Tell us about a Hispanic person who has made a deep impact on your life.
One Hispanic person who has made a deep impact on my life is my mom. She was a hardworking woman who taught me the value of hard work and responsibility. She also showed me the importance of being humble and kind to others, no matter the circumstances. Her example has shaped who I am today.
