Press Release: Georgia Voters Make Historic Progress for Reproductive Rights in General Assembly

On Election Day, Georgians made landmark progress in the fight for a pro-civil liberties majority in the Georgia Legislature. By electing two pro-reproductive rights legislators to the General Assembly, the people of Georgia have taken a powerful stand against the state's draconian abortion restrictions.

"Our communities have sent a clear message: Georgians demand leaders who will fight for reproductive justice and challenge harmful policies that hurt women," said Andrea Young, executive director of the ACLU of Georgia. "Every minute this ban remains in effect, Georgians suffer, but with pro-civil liberties allies in the General Assembly, we have renewed strength in this fight."

This victory is the result of a $300,000 electoral program paid for by the ACLU Voter Education Fund to inform Georgia voters about the critical freedoms at stake in this year's state house races, including access to abortion, IVF, and access to contraception. The initiative is part of a multi-cycle effort to rebuild a lasting pro-civil liberties coalition in the state legislature.
