FIJI STRENGTHENS CYBERSECURITY WITH...

The Fiji Government is taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity by establishing the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT).

This was highlighted by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica at the recent Fiji Tech Summit 2024 at the Sheraton Resort and Spa in Nadi yesterday.

Acting Prime Minister Hon.Kamikamica highlighted that this critical body, expected to be operational soon, will focus solely on protecting the cybersecurity of our people and institutions, responding swiftly to cyber incidents, and mitigating the impact of potential cyber threats.

Additionally Acting Prime Minister Hon.Kamikamica stated that Fiji Government is currently in the process of reviewing Fiji's Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment, conducted in collaboration with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre.

"This assessment will form the foundation of our forthcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy which will outline clear goals that we, as a nation, must achieve to ensure we are cyber-safe and resilient."

Fiji already has a Cybercrime Act 2021 which is aligned with the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime, and is working closely with different organisations to follow through with the convention to protect our ICT.
