NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for October 13-19, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of October 13-19, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the following notable arrest(s) were also made:

  • On October 16, members of the Louisiana State Polic and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Eric Christopher Gentris (black male, DOB: 01-02-1989 in connection with the NOPD's investigation of a homicide that occurred earlier that night in the 6200 block of Bridgehampton Drive. Gentry was arrested and booked into the custody of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office as a fugitive. Upon extradition back to Orleans Parish, Gentris was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for one count of second-degree murder.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 361 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 42-percent decrease compared to 626 arrests made during the same period in 2023.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of October 15, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 1,788 firearms in criminal investigations, a 21-percent decrease compared to 2,284 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.
