Stillman Professor Recognized as Exceptional Educator

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has named Danielle DiMeglio, CPA, MBA, a 2024 Ovation Award winner in the Exceptional Educators category. DiMeglio is director of graduate accounting programs and instructor of accounting and taxation in the Department of Accounting and Taxation of the Stillman School of Business.

The Exceptional Educators category recognizes college accounting educators who distinguish themselves with their excellence in teaching and prominence in state-wide or regional activity to actively encourage careers in accounting and by serving as role models in academia.

The NJCPA noted on its website, "Danielle is on a mission to improve the accounting pipeline. She directs Seton Hall's CPA Pathways Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with Withum, and co-developed its Tax Lab courses, part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that provides tax preparation to low-income tax filers. Danielle is also the co-advisor of Seton Hall's Beta Alpha Psi student accounting organization."

DiMeglio was nominated by Christine Milano, assistant director of The Career Center, who indicated in her nomination, "Danielle is a dedicated and deeply caring instructor and academic advisor at Seton Hall. She takes personal responsibility for each student's learning. Danielle is committed to her students, helping them to study accounting and inspiring many to pursue career paths in accounting."

"We are incredibly proud of Danielle's well-deserved recognition by the NJCPA," said Joyce Strawser, dean of the Stillman School of Business. "Her unwavering commitment to student success and her innovative approach to accounting education have made a lasting impact on our students and the profession. Danielle's dedication to mentoring future accounting professionals exemplifies the values we uphold at the Stillman School."

In her role, DiMeglio teaches undergraduate courses in financial, managerial and enterprise-wide accounting, while also serving as the primary academic advisor for both undergraduate and graduate students. Her teaching approach emphasizes the integration of modern technologies and data analytics into the traditional accounting curriculum. Her research interests include accounting information systems and online learning for quantitative disciplines. DiMeglio has contributed to several professional panels and papers, including at the Northeast Decision Sciences Conference.

As the director of the CPA Pathways Apprenticeship Program, she helps give students the opportunity to earn the extra credits needed to hold their Certified Public Accounting license upon passing the exam, gain first-hand public accounting work experience and receive compensation during their final year of school.

She also co-advises the school's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi which recognizes scholastic and professional excellence in the financial information field, providing professional development to Seton Hall students as well as volunteer opportunities.

DiMeglio, in collaboration with Avery E. Neumark, JD, LL.M., C.P.A., a visiting instructor in the Department of Accounting and Taxation, co-developed the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. This ongoing partnership between Seton Hall University and the United Way of Greater Newark and the United Way of Northern New Jersey (UWNNJ) enables students enrolled in the Tax Lab course to volunteer their time providing free tax preparation services to members of the campus community.

Prior to her academic career, DiMeglio worked as a real estate controller and assistant vice president at Clarion Partners, LLC, and gained experience in audit and assurance at Deloitte. Her areas of specialization include financial accounting and accounting information systems. She holds both an MBA and a B.S. in Accounting from St. John's University.
