Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, Europe, leadership hosted Air Force Maj. Gen. David Sanford, director, Logistics Operations, and commander, Joint Regional Combat Support, DLA, for a visit and site tour at the distribution center in Germersheim, Germany, Nov. 1.
DLA Logistics Operations is responsible for the end-to-end supply chain management of DLA's nine supply chains, providing logistics and material process management policy, guidance, oversight and monitoring supply chain performance. As the commander of Joint Regional Combat Support, Sanford oversees DLA's three regional commands that provide unified DLA interfaces for warfighters in the U.S. Europe and Africa Command, U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command areas of responsibility.
Sanford was accompanied by Army Col. Adrian "AJ" Sullivan, commander, DLA Europe and Africa, Air Force Col. Mark Szatkowski, director, Operations and Plans, DLA Troop Support, and Army Col. Ryan Swedlow, director, Land Customer Operations, DLA Land and Maritime. The visit focused on DLA Distribution, Europe's role in supporting EUCOM, CENTCOM and AFRICOM through initiatives that expand beyond traditional distribution.
"As a key integrated logistics provider in EUCOM, DLA Distribution, Europe, proves superior customer support through a dedicated truck network," said Neil Flanagan, deputy commander, DLA Distribution, Europe. "All of DLA Distribution, Europe's trucks are obtained through the EUCOM Tender Program and must remain available in a contested logistics environment or other solutions must be provided."
Keeping with the theme of contested logistics, discussions also centered on operations security at DLA Distribution, Europe, and within EUCOM.
"Our team appreciated hearing Maj. Gen. Sanford provide his thoughts on distribution and resiliency in a contested logistics environment," said Army Lt. Col. Michael Zdrojesky, commander, DLA Distribution, Europe. "The DLA Distribution, Europe, team did an excellent job illuminated the capabilities we provide to multiple theaters and our agility responding to emerging missions as they arise."
During the visit, Sanford recognized three DLA Distribution, Europe, employees for their dedication and commitment to the organization's mission. Those recognized were Jered Biers, chief, Theater Consolidation and Shipping Point, Roger Simmons, warehousing supervisor, and Dave Etter, deputy chief, Operations.
