Trevecca Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Cultural and Educational Events

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to celebrate the contribution of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This year, Trevecca hosted a series of events aimed at encouraging faculty and students to learn more and participate in this important month.

On Tuesday, September 24, the Office of Mission Excellence and Reconciliation hosted a panel entitled Inclusive Communities: Professional Perspectives on Immigration, which focused on the challenges and triumphs of immigrant communities and how their stories are woven into the fabric of the United States. Panel speakers were local professionals and members of the Hispanic community.

On Monday, September 30, the Hispanic Heritage Month Lunch & Learn event featured a panel with Yuri Cunza, president of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Organization of Leaders & Achievers (HOLA) Chairwoman Nadina Chavez.

On Thursday, October 10, Salsa Night took place on campus with live music, dance instructors and refreshments. Students who were familiar with salsa dancing and those who had never experienced it before had the opportunity to come together and enjoy a night of culture and movement.

The month-long series of events was designed to celebrate members of Trevecca's Hispanic community as part of the University's commitment to welcoming people of all ethnicities.
