North Carolina’s Technology Achievements Gain National Recognition

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers recently recognized North Carolina's IT achievements with multiple national honors. In addition, North Carolina received an "A" grade on the Center for Digital Government's Digital States Survey for its use of digital technologies.

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) recently recognized North Carolina's IT achievements with multiple national honors. In addition, North Carolina received an "A" grade on the Center for Digital Government's Digital States Survey for its use of digital technologies.

The N.C. Department of Commerce's Division of Employment Security received a NASCIO 2024 State IT Recognition Award in the "Digital Services: Government to Business" category for its work to rapidly modernize the state's unemployment tax system by consolidating three disparate and outdated systems used for tax administration into one unified and user-friendly platform.

The division launched the N.C. State Unemployment Insurance Tax System (NCSUITS) in November 2023, benefiting nearly 300,000 employers and agents statewide. NCSUITS is an integrated, cloud-based system that offers convenient self-service options and real-time updates within a secure, resilient environment.

The N.C. Department of Information Technology was recognized as a finalist in the "Cybersecurity" and "Information Communications Technology Innovations" categories for its cybersecurity work and its efforts to map broadband access and adoption across North Carolina.

The annual State IT Recognition Awards honor transformational projects and initiatives that address critical business problems, improve business processes and elevate the citizen experience. For more information, visit nascio.org/awards.

North Carolina has also been recognized as one of only nine states to achieve an overall grade of "A" on the 2024 Digital States Survey. This biennial e-survey administered by the Center for Digital Government evaluates state governments' use of digital technologies. In addition, North Carolina was honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award for exemplary work in Public Safety, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice and Corrections. North Carolina was also one of only six states to receive an "A" on the 2022 survey.
