Senator Marshall Demands BLS Commissioner Testifies on 800,000 Downward Revision to 2023 Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. led a letter calling for the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Commissioner Erika McEntarfer to publicly testify about BLS' inaccurate reporting of new jobs in the United States. In August, the BLS revised its report on job creation in 2023 downward by over 800,000 jobs, showing that the Harris-Biden Administration's economic policies are not as successful as publicly portrayed.

Jobs reports provide critical data for American citizens, small business owners, financial experts, and policymakers when evaluating current and future economic health. By grossly overestimating the number of jobs created in 2023, BLS misled the country on current economic conditions and this administration's record on jobs. Commissioner McEntarfer must publicly testify that BLS has not become a politically motivated actor intent on helping Democrats in November, as well as explain what steps her agency is taking to produce more accurate jobs reports in the future.

On August 27, Senator Marshall demanded that BLS explain various factors behind its massive revision to the 2023 jobs report. That letter has yet to receive a response.
