Fatal Collision on Meadowbrook State Parkway

On November 21, 2024, at approximately 10:30 pm, Troopers responded to the Meadowbrook State Parkway north of the Southern State Parkway, in the Town of Hempstead, for a one car collision. Investigation revealed Lillie Carpenter, age 80 of Roosevelt, NY, was operating her Toyota Camry on the northbound Meadowbrook when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Carpenter was the only person in the vehicle and the collision caused her death. The investigation revealed that speed and a wet roadway were contributing factors to the collision.

The northbound Meadowbrook was closed, and traffic was diverted onto the Southern State Parkway. All lanes have reopened.
