Deaf Village Northwest Wins Prestigious UK Start-Up Award AND Receives Recognition at The BIBA’s 2024, All In One Week! | Member News

Deaf Village Northwest, a pioneering organisation dedicated to raising Deaf Awareness, supporting the Deaf Community and promoting inclusion, is proud to announce its remarkable success on the national stage.

The team was honoured with the National Social Enterprise of the Year award at the UK Start-Up Awards on September 12, 2024. Just a week later, Deaf Village Northwest was also Highly Commended in the Community Business of the Year category at the BIBA's 2024 Awards held in Blackpool, marking an extraordinary week of achievement and recognition.

The journey to success began earlier this year when Deaf Village Northwest triumphed at the regional finals of the UK Start-Up Awards. The team travelled to Hertfordshire on September 12th to collect the prestigious national award, coinciding with their participation at Ideas Fest, a business festival where they had the opportunity to draw inspiration from some of the UK's most influential business leaders, including HomeServe founder Steve Harpin and All Saints founder Stuart Trevor.

Deborah Blades, Head of Business and Operations at Deaf Village, said:

"We are beyond thrilled to be recognised on such a significant platform. Being at Ideas Fest was a game-changer for us, especially hearing from business giants like Steve Harpin and Stuart Trevor. We've come away with fresh ideas and greater motivation to continue scaling and drive our mission of raising Deaf awareness."

Less than a week after their success in Hertfordshire, the Deaf Village team headed to Blackpool to attend the highly anticipated BIBA 2024 Awards, where they were presented with a Highly Commended award in the Community Business of the Year category. This recognition highlights Deaf Villages tireless efforts to create a more inclusive society through education, advocacy, and community engagement.

Debra Cartlidge, Founder & CEO, Deaf Village Northwest spokesperson, added:

"These platforms have provided us with invaluable opportunities to not only celebrate our achievements but also to amplify our message on a national scale. Winning these awards raises the profile of Deaf Village Northwest, but more importantly, it helps us continue the crucial work of increasing Deaf awareness, breaking down communication barriers, and promoting inclusivity."
