The Music of Gabriel Fauré comes to ECU

ADA, Okla. - East Central University brings The Music of Gabriel Fauré to campus with the 100 Year Anniversary Concert, Monday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre, located inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

This event is free and open to the public.

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was a prominent French composer at the turn of the 20th century. He is most famous for his many beautiful songs, which are an important part of the repertoire for classical singers. However, he also composed many instrumental works, including many famous works for piano. Stradling two different historical eras - the Romanticism of the 19th Century and the Modernism of the 20th - his works possess the best qualities of both.

According to Brittanica, "One of the most striking features of his style was his fondness for daring harmoni[es] … carried out with supreme elegance and a deceptive air of simplicity."

His works possess a graceful melodic flow which is only enhanced by the use of high-quality poetry, and has earned him a place alongside the many great composers of past centuries.

"This is a concert of art song and instrumental music by French composer G. Fauré performed by ECU faculty and students," said Dr. Melody Baggech, professor of music. "Come hear this beautiful music!"
