Ossoff Visits Valdosta to Assess Hurricane Helene's Impact

On Saturday, September 28, Senator Jon Ossoff visited the City of Valdosta to tour areas affected by Hurricane Helene. Mayor Scott James Matheson accompanied the senator, guiding him through various parts of the city impacted by the storm.

Among the areas toured were I-75 exit 18 to Gornto Road, Patterson Street, and Big Nick's restaurant, where meals were being served to first responders. They also visited West Street, where Ossoff spoke with citizens about their experiences, and traveled through Downtown Valdosta before stopping at the Second Harvest Food Bank of South Georgia, Inc., where they distributed meals to community members in need. The senator engaged with local leaders to gain valuable insights into the challenges residents face in the aftermath of the hurricane.

"The purpose of this tour was to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Helene and determine the necessary measures to support our community in recovery," said Mayor Matheson. "It is crucial that we work together to ensure our residents receive the assistance they need during this difficult time."

Senator Ossoff expressed his commitment to advocating for resources and support for Valdosta and the surrounding areas as they navigate the recovery process.
