PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale Fight Fentanyl Antelope Valley committee encourages youth in the community to adopt a drug-free lifestyle by participating in Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide movement focused on drug awareness. Taking place from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, it is the largest drug prevention campaign in the country.
Red Ribbon Week is a great chance for parents, teachers and community organizations to raise awareness about substance abuse. Palmdale encourages local organizations, schools, and residents to participate in its contest to beautify their homes, classrooms and businesses in celebration of Red Ribbon Week. This is a fun way to spread awareness throughout the Antelope Valley while competing for prizes!
"We are committed to keeping our youth safe from harmful substances," said Palmdale Mayor Austin Bishop. "This contest is a fun and engaging way to educate young people about an important issue and empower them to make healthy choices."
As part of the awareness efforts, Palmdale residents are invited to participate in the citywide Red Ribbon Week Photo/Decorating Contest from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1. To enter, decorate your front door, mailbox or fence with a double-looped red ribbon and incorporate this year's theme, "Life Is A Movie, Film Drug Free.™" Once your decoration is ready, snap a photo and submit your entry to www.cityofpalmdaleca.gov/RedRibbon.
Prizes will be awarded: $1,000 for 1st place, $800 for 2nd place and $500 for 3rd place. The City of Palmdale and members of the Fight Fentanyl Campaign will judge the entries. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Participants must be 18 years or older to enter the contest. A parent or legal guardian must submit the photo on behalf of minor children. For school entries, school staff or PTA members can enter. For questions, please contact Deputy City Manager Nardy Lopez at [email protected] or 661/267-5115.
"Helping students navigate the challenges and temptations related to drugs is important," said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. "By uniting as a community, we can make a positive impact on the lives of our young people."
The City is also partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a month-long campaign supporting the Red Ribbon Week cause. Here is how you can get involved:
