The Story of Country Day on the Hill

In 1937, the roots of Country Day were planted when a small group of Cedar Hill residents gathered on Old Town Square to rekindle old friendships and share moments of fellowship. In those early years, people simply knew when to gather without modern reminders like Facebook Events or Google Calendars. They would reunite on the second Saturday in October for what soon became fondly known as the "Old Settlers Reunion."

Over time, the Old Settlers Reunion evolved into a lively night of bingo and traditional "settlers" food on Friday, paving the way for a full day of excitement on Saturday. What began as a modest gathering has now blossomed into a vibrant event, attracting thousands of people from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Live music, fair food, local vendors, and captivating entertainment are just a few highlights of this event.

The festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 11, with a delightful dinner featuring homemade beans and cornbread, along with tea and dessert, all for just $5, generously provided by Cotton Patch and Jessica's Tea Room. Following the meal, at 6:30 p.m., the much-anticipated announcement of the 2024 King and Queen of Country Day takes place, honoring cherished local stars within the community. Then, at 6:45 p.m., the eagerly awaited Old Settlers Bingo begins, lasting until 8 p.m., with prizes generously donated by local businesses and individuals, and games called by the popular announcer Craig Root. The dinner cost also includes a bingo card, and additional cards are available at $1 each. All proceeds go towards supporting the Cedar Hill Food Pantry and Bridges Safe House.

Saturday's Country Day events are jam-packed with activities, starting with live music, Angela's Home Town Talent Stage, the Country Day Princess Pageant, Children's Corner, arts & crafts booths, Lions Club Fish Fry, Fire Safety House, Downtown Kiddie Train, and much more.

Moreover, don't miss the Masons' Country Breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with booths opening at 9 a.m., followed by the lively parade arriving downtown at 10 a.m.
