Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Westmark Hotels, Inc. dba McKinley Chalet Resort

PROJECT NAME: LAS 35263

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: State owned shorelands below the Ordinary High Watermark of the Nenana River.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Section 33 of Township 13 South, Range 7 West, Fairbanks Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), Northern Regional Land Office (NRO), has received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from Westmark Hotels, Inc. doing business as (dba) McKinley Chalet Resorts to conduct clearing between their private property and the Nenana River in order to create a fire break. Following the 2024 Riley Creek Fire the applicant received recommendations from a landscape architect to clear this area to better protect their infrastructure. Clearing would be conducted using hand tools and equipment equivalent to a hydroax. Access to the site would be via the applicant's private property.

REQUESTED TERM: 5 years

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: October 28, 2024

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above. After review and adjudication, we may issue an authorization with stipulations for the activity. The activity may be modified during the review and adjudication process.
