American provides extra seats, customer flexibility in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton

  • The airline is adding more than 2,000 seats departing from Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) late Monday and early Tuesday morning.
  • Customers have additional flexibility to change their travel plans in multiple Florida markets.

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast midweek.

American will suspend operations at Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) shortly after midnight Tuesday, Oct. 8, due to local conditions. American is currently evaluating its operations at other airports in the region based on the latest weather forecasts.

The airline will operate multiple additional flights with more than 2,000 seats late Monday evening, Oct. 7, and early Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, from TPA and SRQ to allow customers who would like to evacuate by air the opportunity to do so:

Customers can book these extra flights by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300. Customers booked on these additional flights will be allowed two free checked bags.

American also issued a travel alert for 12 airports in Florida, allowing customers whose travel plans are impacted by Hurricane Milton to rebook without change fees. Customers can reschedule their travel on aa.com, through the American app or by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300 in the United States or Canada. Customers are also encouraged to check the status of their flight on aa.com or on the American Airlines mobile app.

If an American flight has been canceled or excessively delayed, customers may cancel their itinerary and request a refund by visiting our website. Customers who booked through a travel agent should contact their travel agency directly.

American will continue tracking Hurricane Milton with customers' and team members' safety top of mind.
