Situated at a former quarry, the campus will provide a base for DEEP to undertake pioneering research designed to enhance human access to the ocean.
The focal point of the site, which extends to over 20 hectares, is an 80-metre deep, clear and controlled expanse of water.
Once completed, the facility will combine in-water infrastructure, on-water equipment and shore-side facilities, making the DEEP Campus the world's most capable facility from which to design, manufacture, assemble, trial and test subsea equipment, and to train the people who will use it.
The masterplan has evolved following two years of careful analysis and engagement. Savills planners working alongside a design team and the Forest of Dean District Council to create a long-term vision for the site, which provides an attractive and biodiversity rich campus environment.
Portia Banwell worked on the masterplan on behalf of Savills and commented:
"This is a hugely exciting and completely unique facility that will support the renaissance of underwater research, aiming, ultimately, to create a permanent human presence under the ocean. This positive resolution for our masterplan is an important milestone in the project, paving way for the campus to be delivered, and anticipated economic benefits to be unlocked.'
