City of Elgin Installs First Live Tree for Annual Holiday Celebration

A stunning 33-foot Blue Spruce has been installed as the first live Christmas tree at the newly revitalized DuPage Court in downtown Elgin. This beautiful tree was donated by Bryan and Debby McMahan of West Dundee and will be featured in a special tree lighting ceremony.

The holiday tree lighting ceremony, which marks the beginning of the festive season, is set to take place on Saturday, November 30, from 5 to 6 p.m. During the event, Mayor David Kaptain, members of the City Council, and Santa will illuminate the holiday tree. The tree will shine brightly until early January 2025.

In line with Elgin's commitment to sustainability, the tree will be cut down to a manageable size after the holiday season. The city's Land Management and Forestry staff will then transport it to Lords Park Zoo, where it will serve as natural vegetation for the animals, provide a perching base, and be composted to enrich the soil.
