Congratulations to all finalists and recipients who have been awarded the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's Impact Awards.
It is a pleasure to be here with you tonight, on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people.
By this acknowledgement, I want to pay tribute to those who have cared for this land for thousands of years.
That's what the Museum is doing here in the Grand Hall: paying tribute to ancestral Indigenous cultures of Canada's Pacific Northwest.
This exhibition is an act of inclusion and reconciliation.
Your work is also a remarkable act of inclusion.
Research in social sciences and humanities has the power to transform lives and shape the future.
Your work has inspired innovation, fostered understanding and put forward solutions to pressing social issues.
You help us to better understand people, communities and power dynamics.
You help develop our collective knowledge of Indigenous cultures and their unique approaches to mental health.
You inspire us to reimagine the music industry to better preserve Indigenous cultures and languages.
You create new opportunities for collaboration and innovation that will improve access to law and justice for all.
You help us understand the impact of foreign authoritarian regimes on people and development.
You rethink our culture and our values of democracy and diversity, by showing the influence of Greek critical thinking on our lives.
From various perspectives and disciplines, you all contribute to expanding our collective understanding of the lesser-known facets of humanity.
Which helps combat harmful, misinformed social discourses.
It helps better educate our youth and open their minds. And it helps to build a more inclusive Canada.
For this, we are grateful to you.
I encourage you to use this award to boost the impact of your work even further.
Congratulations, have a wonderful evening!
