Robeson CRV recommended for ACA accreditation

It is the 43rd NCDAC facility recommended or awarded the distinction.

American Correctional Association auditors have recommended accreditation be awarded to Robeson Confinement in Response to Violation (CRV) Center.

Robeson CRV is the 43rd N.C. Department of Adult Correction facility that has either been recommended or awarded ACA accreditation. NCDAC is pursuing the distinction for all its facilities and operations.

ACA auditors found Robeson CRV met 100% of mandatory practices and 97% of non-mandatory practices during their intensive inspections, conducted Dec. 11-13. The ACA Commission on Accreditation for Corrections will vote to formally grant accreditation at a future meeting.

"The staff of Robeson CRV worked long and hard to make this accomplishment a reality. They're dedicated, and I'm very proud of them," said Superintendent Pamela Locklear. "I also want to thank our department and South Central Region leadership, as well as DAC's accreditation and compliance specialists, for all the support and guidance they've provided throughout this process."

The Lumberton facility houses approximately 170 male offenders who have violated technical terms of parole, probation or post-release supervision. Robeson CRV provides an intensive 90-day program designed to reinforce correct behaviors that will allow violators to resume community supervision and rejoin their communities without committing further violations or crimes that could send them back to prison. Robeson is one of two CRVs currently operating within NCDAC. North Piedmont CRV in Lexington houses female offenders.

ACA audits of performance-based standards evaluate fundamental correctional practices that

• ensure staff and offender safety and security
• enhance staff morale
• improve record maintenance and data management capabilities
• and improve the function of the facility.

As part of the accreditation process, ACA auditors spent three days conducting visual inspections, reviewing policies and procedures, and evaluating the work being done to ensure best practices are met at the prison.

The NCDAC Strategic Plan calls for ACA accreditation of all facilities and operations.
