Management Students Take First Prize in IACBE Competition

School of Management Professor Hossein Noorian and students Mariam Abboud, Lance Boyer, and Elaywan Becker represented Wentworth in the IACBE Region One competition

A team of three senior students from Wentworth Institute of Technology's Management program-Mariam Abboud, Lance Boyer, and Elaywan Becker-participated in a case competition at the annual meeting of the IACBE's Region One conference held at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Cape Cod.

The IACBE (International Accreditation Council for Business Education) asked students to read a case from the Institute of Management Accountant. The case involved usage of a medical instrument by senior citizens and students had to provide alternatives to the CEO of a fictitious startup technology company. The company was planning a large-scale rollout of their remote care platform, read the exercise, and this was a software-based service that provides real time data of a customer's health to any caretaker they choose.

Professor Hossein Noorian of Wentworth's School of Management was the Faculty Advisor for this group of students. Noorian noted that although the team members were engaged in their respective co-ops this semester, they devoted a lot of time and effort to excel in their analysis for this case. The team presented their analysis via Zoom, answering judge's questions and even addressing the opposing team's questions and comments while implementing different subjects from various courses into their analysis.

The Student Case Competition judge provided the following feedback to the Wentworth Management students:

• Great job with assessment and discussion of the risk associated with the B2B and B2C options

• The strategy section and discussion were well thought out and nicely outlined

• Good use of the BSC matrix and its application to the case

• Outstanding job listing the alternatives

• Powerful and useful visuals, graphs, and charts. Your visuals strengthened your overall presentation

• The financials section was well constructed and logical

• The team did a nice job responding to questions

• The team did a nice job sharing the "airtime," acknowledging each other's comments, and supporting each other throughout the presentation

This is the second time that a Management team led by Professor Noorian achieved first place in the Student Case Competition.
