FIRE UPDATES FOR MALIBU - evacuation orders and warnings for central malibu. pch lane closures

Mandatory Evacuation Order (MAL-C113A, C112, C111)
South of Piuma Road, north of the Pacific Ocean coastline, east of Puerco Canyon Road/Corral Canyon Park, west of Los Flores Canyon Road, Between the Pacific Ocean coastline and Tuna Canyon Park to the west of Tuna Canyon Road. Look up evacuation maps:

Evacuation Warning (C113C MAL-C113B, KAN-U017)
East of Trancas Canyon Road and Kanan Dune Road, west of Topanga Canyon Blvd/Surfview Drive, south of Mulholland Highway, north of Evacuation Order boundary. Includes Topanga Zone 8 and 10.

Shelter Open and Active: Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD), 2802 4th Street, Santa Monica (crated small animals accepted).

For Animals:
Small animals: Agoura Animal Shelter (29525 Agoura Rd.)
Large animals: Pierce College (6201 Winnetka Ave.)

Pepperdine EOC lifted their shelter-in-place order. Campus conditions are safe for members of the community to return to student residences and on-campus homes.

SMMUSD reports that all Malibu Schools will remain closed through Thursday 12/12 at this time.

SCE crews have restored power to Merlin, Cuthbert, Maguire, and Nicolas circuits. See SCE outage updates: https://www.sce.com/.

Traffic lights along PCH are all operational. Traffic lights at Malibu Canyon Rd/ Civic Center Way and Winter Canyon RD/Civic Center Way are still down.

Hard Road Closures:
-Malibu Canyon Road remains closed from Mulholland Hwy to PCH;
- Civic Center Way northbound to Malibu Canyon Road;
- PCH is closed from Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Kanan Dume Road;
- Las Virgenes to Mulholland southbound
- Las Virgenes to Lost Hills southbound
- PCH closed Las Flores to Corral Canyon
- Las Virgenes Road closed from Mulholland Hwy to PCH
- Mulholland closed to Cold Canyon Road to Stunt Road
- Saddle Peak Road to Tuna Canyon Road

We recognize that cellular communication remains an issue.

Merlin - Latigo Cyn - Malibu Lagoon, 2-4 miles inland. Galahad - Approximately the western edge of Point Dume to Point Mugu and two to four miles inland. Due to the Franklin Fire and PCH closure, trash service is suspended from Topanga Canyon to Kanan Dume Road.

UPDATE: 12/11/2024, 10:45 AM - The Franklin Fire has now burned 3,983 acres and remains at 7% containment. Preliminary reports indicate that seven structures have been destroyed, and eight have been damaged. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating event. The fire grew an additional 600 acres from this morning. There are over 1,500 firefighters assigned to the incident. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until tomorrow afternoon.

    • PCH from Kanan to Topanga
    • Malibu Canyon Road at Mulholland Highway to Pacific Coast Highway

    • Pacific Coast Highway closed between Carbon Canyon and Corral Canyon Road (Open to only those actively evacuating the area)
    • Old Topanga Canyon Road at Mulholland Highway to Topanga Canyon Boulevard (Open to residents)

    • Areas east of Latigo Canyon, west of Topanga Beach Driveway, and south of Baller Motorway, including the Big Rock and Las Flores Communities.

PCH is closed from Topanga to Kanan, Malibu Cyn is closed. Las Virgenes is closed from Mulholland to Lost Hills.

The fire has spread across south across PCH and is threatening structures on Malibu Road, near Malibu Pier, Serra, Civic Center, Malibu Knolls, Sweetwater Mesa, and other neighborhoods in central Malibu.

LA County Fire Dept is on scene. LA County Sheriffs are conducting evacuations door-to-door. Follow evacuation directions from police and fire officials.

The City has activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

SMMUSD Update: Due to the ongoing fire and safety concerns, all Malibu schools are closed today, December 10, until further notice. Authorities are urging residents and visitors to stay clear of the area, as the fire continues to pose a significant threat.

FIRE UDPATE: EVACUATION/SHELTER INFO: Palisades Recreation Center at 851 Alma Real Dr. has been upgraded to an evacuation center, currently open, accepting pets in carriers or crates. UPDATE: 12/10/2024, 3AM - The Franklin Fire, started in Malibu Cyn, has spread south across PCH to Malibu Road near Webb Way, and across PCH into the Malibu Pier area. Malibu Pier and other structures are impacted. Structures are impacted on Malibu Knolls Rd and Sweetwater Cyn.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for all of Zones MAL-C112 and MAL-C111 and Evacuation Warning for MAL-C113 in Malibu due to the Franklin Fire in Malibu Cyn.
