Manchin Statement On Ira Impact: 54 Medicare Drugs See Lower Prices

Charleston, WV - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) released the following statement applauding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) announcement that due to the Medicare Prescription Drug Inflation Rebate Program-created by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)-Medicare enrollees will pay lower Part B coinsurance for 54 prescription drugs from October 1, 2024 until the end of 2024. The Medicare Prescription Drug Inflation Rebate Program requires drugmakers to pay the program a rebate if the price of their drugs rises faster than the rate of inflation.

"Thanks to the IRA's Medicare Prescription Drug Inflation Rebate Program the price of 54 lifesaving prescription drugs is coming down," said Senator Manchin. "Over 822,000 Medicare enrollees rely on these lifesaving medications annually for conditions like cancer, osteoporosis and pneumonia. I'm so proud of the monumental impact the Inflation Reduction Act is having on reducing drug prices for hardworking Americans, but especially West Virginians. I remain dedicated and focused on ensuring this legislation is implemented correctly to continue lowering healthcare costs and supporting families nationwide."
