Frederick Police and Allied Agencies Safely Locate Infant After Vehicle Theft

On the evening of September 19, 2024, officers from the Frederick Police Department, in coordination with the Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, safely located an infant following the theft of a vehicle.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., Frederick Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft and child abduction in the 1700 block of Harvest Drive in Frederick, MD. The victim reported that her vehicle, a silver Hyundai Elantra, was stolen from outside her residence while her infant child was asleep in the back seat. The victim had briefly left the vehicle to retrieve an item from inside the house, and upon her return, the vehicle was gone.

Frederick Police dispatch immediately provided a description of the stolen vehicle, while the victim used the "Find My iPhone" app to track the vehicle's movements and relay the information to dispatch. At 9:39 p.m., Maryland State Police and a Deputy from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle at 502 E. Ridgeville Boulevard in Mount Airy, MD.

The suspect, identified as Jeremy Francis Rineman, 45, of Mechanicsburg, PA, was detained at the scene. The infant, who was safely secured in a car seat in the back of the vehicle, was unharmed. The child was later transported to Frederick Health Hospital as a precautionary measure, where no injuries were reported.

Rineman was taken into custody by Frederick Police officers and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he is currently being held. He has been charged with the following:

  • Kidnapping - Child
  • Motor Vehicle Theft
