The Washington State University Writing Program invites faculty system-wide to apply to be members of the WORD Fellows cohort for spring 2025.
WORD is the acronym for Writing Occurring Rhetorically in the Disciplines.
Twelve group sessions will begin Jan. 30 and end April 24 most weeks.
Fellows are compensated for completing the program successfully. All clinical- and tenure-track faculty on all campuses are welcome.
Up to 10 participants next semester will collaborate in experiential workshops, exploring with peers and experts several approaches to teaching with writing as opposed to teaching writing. Between meetings, fellows will reflect on personal goals for students' writing, program lessons, and their plans to develop a scaffolded writing assignment.
"Spring's participants will make up the fifth cohort of WORD Fellows, which began as a yearly offering in 2021," said Lisa Johnson Shull, Writing Program associate director and WORD Fellows co-facilitator. Forty faculty from disciplines across the university have so far completed the program, and their outreach through course changes has impacted many hundreds of students so far.
"We welcome applications from those who use writing in their curricula or who want to integrate writing into their courses," said co-facilitator Brooklyn Walter, Writing Center director.
Johnson Shull and Walter are available to answer questions about the WORD Fellows program.
