SIUE Film Screening and Collaboration with Smith Center Featured on National Radio

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has received national attention on radio airwaves as the University continues its month-long collaboration with Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) Community Curation 2024 program.

In partnership with the Center for the Digitization and Curation of African American History, also known as The Smith Center, funded by Robert F. Smith, SIUE kicked off its public programming with the film screening of "gOD-Talk: A Black Millennials and Faith Conversation."

Host Esther Dillard of BIN News, the Black Information Network on iHeart Radio, interviewed SIUE's Tisha Brooks, PhD, assistant professor of English, about the educational benefits of having a conversation around young African Americans and religion.

On WSIE 88.7's "On Another Note," SIUE's own Robin Boyce hosted a segment with Smith Center Director Doretha Williams, "gOD-Talk" filmmaker Kim Moir and Brooks.Williams talked about the importance of putting a spotlight on communities who support the growth of NMAAHC as a national project through the multitude of local stories and preservation.

The Smith Center wraps its series of events with SIUE next week. This partnership is designed to bring national attention to the preservation of the rich tapestry of African American history and culture of the St. Louis and East St. Louis region.
