The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Patrolman Paul J. Murnane who Died in the Line of Duty 86 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Patrolman Paul J. Murnane, who was died in the line of duty 86 years ago today. On September 23, 1938, Patrolman Paul J. Murnane died in the line of duty when he suffered a fatal heart attack while chasing two robbery suspects.

Patrolman Murnane was 47-years-old at the time of his death and survived by his wife and four children.

Patrolman Murnane was laid to rest at the New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 60, West Line 1. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.
