Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to the White House imposing sanctions on Amana, a key funder of settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank:
"I am encouraged that the Biden Administration has taken action to sanction Amana, a key funder of settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank that has been directly involved in the forced dispossession of Palestinian land and the creation of illegal outposts. In October, I led a letter with 86 of my colleagues urging the administration to do just this, and I am glad to see they have heeded the call.
"This is a good first step and will make a real impact on the ground by limiting Amana's ability to provide critical financial, logistical, and legal assistance to expanding settler activity that threatens the possibility of a two-state solution. However, the Biden Administration can and must go further: there are still entities and Israeli government officials named directly in our letter, including Regavim and Cabinet Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, who are responsible for instigating violence and instability in the West Bank, endangering any prospect for peace in the region. They, too, must be held accountable."
