WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO THE 79TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN NEW YORK, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 21 - 28 SEPTEMBER 2024

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan will represent the Prime Minister at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2024) and related meetings, from 21 to 28 September 2024 in New York, the United States of America.

The General Debate of UNGA 2024 will commence on 24 September 2024. This year's meeting will also feature the Summit of the Future (SOTF) on 22 and 23 September 2024.

The Foreign Minister will deliver Malaysia's National Statement at the SOTF on 22 September 2024 (2am Malaysia time) and the General Debate on 28 September 2024 (11pm Malaysia time). Both sessions will be broadcasted live via UN WebTV (https://webtv.un.org/en).

Malaysia's advocacy at the UN will be premised upon three central themes; "Defend Principles, Embrace Reforms and Synergise Partnerships". Malaysia will emphasise on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. Malaysia will call for the reform of international frameworks, to defend and uphold multilateralism as well as the sanctity of international law. In realising this, Malaysia will advocate for the strengthening of regional and global partnerships.

The Foreign Minister will also participate in a series of high-level ministerial meetings including ASEAN, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Commonwealth, and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), G77 and China, World Economic Forum (WEF) and the G20. Among the important issues of focus would be narrowing the development gap between the Global North and South and following up on the recent ICJ Advisory Opinion relating to Palestine.

Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN in 2025, will prioritise actions to advance peace, stability and prosperity in collaboration with the UN and other international bodies.

As a member of the United Nations since 17 September 1957, Malaysia reiterates its unwavering support to multilateralism and commitment to global peace, security and prosperity.
